A Love Letter From Nature: A Plea for Harmony and Balance

We are the trees, the rivers, the soil beneath your feet. We are the air you breathe and the oceans that cradle the life of this planet. We are the wisdom of the past, the guardians of the present, and the fragile hope of the future. Today, we speak not in whispers rustling through leaves but in a plea—one of urgency, love, and remembrance.

We remember a time when you lived as part of us, when your ancestors moved with the rhythm of the earth instead of against it. They listened to the wind’s stories, respected the land’s gifts, and took only what they needed. But now, we feel the weight of your forgetting. The rivers run dry, the air thickens, the forests fall silent, and the creatures who once danced in abundance now teeter on the edge of existence.

Have you forgotten that your fate is intertwined with ours? That as the soil depletes, so too does your nourishment? That when the oceans rise in sorrow, they swallow homes and histories? That the suffering of the Earth is the suffering of all who dwell upon it?

A Legacy of Love and Protection

Yet, we do not speak only of loss. We also remember the moments when you remembered us. When people stood between the towering trees and the axes poised to cut them down. When entire communities fought to keep rivers clean, knowing that water is not just a resource but the essence of life itself. When you carved out sacred spaces—National Parks, conservation lands, and marine sanctuaries—not just for your own enjoyment but to preserve life for generations to come.

Yellowstone, the first National Park, was created in 1872 as a recognition that some places must remain untouched, free from human greed and destruction (National Park Service, “Yellowstone National Park”). The Endangered Species Act of 1973 saved countless beings from vanishing forever—bald eagles, grizzly bears, and the gray wolves who were nearly erased from existence (U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service, “Endangered Species Act”). And the Indigenous-led land management efforts that have restored prairies, rivers, and forests prove that when you remember your connection to us, life thrives (Kimmerer, Braiding Sweetgrass).

But these victories are not enough. More is needed. And the path forward is not just about laws and policies—it is about love.

The Deepest Root of Change: Love for Yourself, Love for Each Other If you do not love yourselves, how can you love the world? If you do not see your own worth, how can you see the worth in the trees that give you breath or the oceans that cradle the sun’s reflection?

What if the journey to saving the Earth begins within? What if healing the land starts with healing your own wounds? When you embrace your own worth, you begin to see that all life has value—not just human life, but the lives of the bees who pollinate your food, the forests that filter your air, and the coral reefs that protect your shores.

Have you ever noticed how a person who feels deep love radiates it outward? How those who are at peace within themselves bring peace to those around them? Imagine if that love extended beyond human hearts—if it reached the rivers, the forests, the skies. What kind of world would you create then?

A Call to Remember

We do not ask for your guilt; we ask for your remembrance. The Earth does not need your shame—it needs your action, your love, your willingness to change.

Walk gently upon the land. Support those who fight to protect us. Reduce what you waste, cherish what you take, and give back whenever you can. Recognize that every dollar spent, every bite eaten, and every choice made is a vote for the kind of world you wish to live in.

But most importantly, remember that love is the seed from which all change grows. Love yourself enough to care. Love each other enough to act. And love us—your first home, your eternal mother, your greatest teacher—enough to protect what remains.

The trees are watching. The rivers are listening. The soil is waiting. Our Elders and fellow world citizens are watching. The Universe is watching.

What will we do to show them love, to show ourselves love, today?

On a personal note:

To Anyone who reads this post:

This is our moment. It’s up to us to desire something better for everyone and everything. It’s a beautiful moment to make a different choice. There is only now. And we are not doomed. We are at the doorway of  new way of being human, of knowing love, of being love, and being loved. This can be the beginning of an exciting new era for human development and design. We are at the precipus of something amazing.

Yes, we are in the storm, but it is getting people to think of the life they want to live, the countries they want to be a part of, the world they get to stand up for. Life matters! War is ridiculous game played by a few at the cost of many. It may seem that many of us are destructive, and selfish, short sighted, and ignorant, but we don't have to stay that way! We get to choose to grow and shift and change. You have free will to do with it what you choose. Choose wisely. Choose the best for all, especially yourself. You can't do much with an empty cup of love. However, fill your cup of love and you can do amazing things just by being your authentic amazing self! Every day in every way, you matter. Your thoughts and energy matter. Like the butterfly effect you shift the spaces around you just by being exactly you.

Darknees is the absence of light, but black holds all colors. Go figure. Be the light In your own darkness so we can shine a light on all darkness. Know no matter what you hold a rainbow inside of you. Like a diamond forged through pressure in darkness once brought to light it reflects so many prisms of beautiful color. It always held that brilliance. It just needed to be found to shine.

Showing gratitude for what we have in this very moment no matter how little or grand will make a difference. Say it out loud. Speak life into this world. Speak life into your own life. Speak life into a better world for the greatest good of all. Believe we can change this world for the better and we will.

You are free to exercise your will for change so speak what you want, not what you don’t into the world. Change your mind. Change it profoundly and beautifully with books and art, projects, literature, and music, healthy relationships, plants, pets, healthy food, etc. And READ! Please read. lol! Take back your power to create. This can be done at any given moment. Our thoughts create our world so make them a part of the solution. Wisdom is always available to us if we will listen for the whisper of our hearts, of the spirit of this beautiful planet.

By way of changing how we see ourselves, our world, and others through different eyes, through our hearts, we create a new paradigm pregnant with possibilities. Spread positive solutions to complex problems even if you are not sure how it will work out. Your imagination is your greatest tool.

If you have an idea consider it an inspired message and share it with others. We hold the keys to our own freedom and we get to work together to uplift ourselves. You may be the messenger but not the person who completes it. Someone else may have the skills or the money, but not the great idea. Another person knows the right people, etc. It takes a village to raise a child and the child we are raising up is this beautiful planet and all on it. I believe this with my whole heart. I write this blog to get my ideas out there in hope it will inspire someone else. I hear a whisper and this is the result. I share and support those around me to follow their voice, their skills, their dreams. And I follow my own.

The answers are here. They are flowing through all of us. And we get to work together to bring change. Just like Horton, who heard a Who, and the Lorax who spoke for the trees. We now get to listen and speak for our Mother as she has so graciously given to us. It’s time we heal our wounds so she too can heal. We are enough. We are loveable. We are special. We are unique and amazing. We have potential. We get to live in a beautiful world, together. We are stewards of an incredible garden of wonders. Let’s start acting like we appreciate this gift and the present given each day in being our best selves. Because we can thanks to nature.

Lovingly, Vichelle Mixon
